Supporting the Bahamas National Trust

Did You Know ...

  • The Trust is the only non-governmental organization in the world responsible for managing the national park system of a country!
  • Members in Family Islands are helping to create regional branches so the Trust can become more active throughout the country
  • Grouper from the protected Exuma Park are repopulating areas as far away as 150 miles. Crawfish are repopulating areas 70 miles away
  • The Trust is the only entity to have crafted a national conservation strategy for The Bahamas.
  • The Trust is self-funded. It's Heritage Fund, one of the first conservation endowment funds in the region, is considered an innovative model of success now being emulated around the world.
  • The people of Central Andros helped establish five national parks there which protect land crabs, blue holes and portions of the island's barrier reef. South Androsians are now helping to create new parks there.
  • The Trust has been spearheading conservation education in The Bahamas for more than 30 years. A generation of Bahamians has grown up benefitting from Trust educational programs.
